Final Session Fees

The SMHA Board of Directors have been working hard to present a fee structure that balances the cost to the association but keeps in mind that many players were unable to attend every session.

We are going to move forward by charging each player 10$ per ice-time for the final hockey session.

If you know how many sessions your child attended, please send in the payment via etransfer to smha@sudburyminorhockey.ca If you do not know the number of sessions attended, we will work with the coaches to determine fees. If you paid the full amount prior to the suspension of hockey, a refund will be issued for the difference.

Please be aware that if payment is not received players will not be allowed on the ice next session (whenever that may occur).

If you have any questions, please email tannys.laughren@sudburyminorhockey.ca

Thank you for your patience, and please stay safe!

Arenas Announcement

Hello everyone,

A Public Service Announcement was issued last evening to declare that there will be additional service and facility adjustments in addition to those associated with the Red – Control category of the province’s Covid-19 response framework, affecting municipal facilities and services.

These adjustments will take effect Monday, March 8 at 12:01am and remain in effect until Greater Sudbury is placed in the Orange – Restrict, or higher, category of the province’s response framework and include the closure of Arenas. The overall goal for these service adjustments is to help reduce opportunities for virus transmission in the community.

Many of you have already reached out over the past week to inform us that your regular season has officially ended due to school outbreaks and closures and rising COVID cases in the community. In addition, we will need to start preparing the Gerry McCrory Countryside Arena and the Centennial Arena to support the upcoming COVID Vaccination Clinics over the coming weeks.

In consideration of the upcoming arena closures, along with the low demand for ice, we have determined that the Arenas will remain closed beyond when Greater Sudbury is placed in the Orange – Restrict, with the exception of TM Davies and McClelland for Spring/Summer Ice. This means that all Ice Bookings are canceled, effective Monday, March 8th 12:01am.

Our booking clerk team is currently reviewing and adjusting contracts to reflect these cancellations and revised agreements and final invoices will be sent, via our booking system to your email, once the adjustments are completed. If you have paid for ice for bookings March 8th 2021 and/or beyond, the booking clerk team will contact you regarding refunds. If you have already contacted us regarding cancellations from this weekend or last week and have paid for those bookings, the booking clerk team will also contact you regarding refunds.

At this time, we are NOT accepting Spring/Summer bookings due to so many unknowns right now but will reach out to all of you when we are ready to begin the process for Ice Allocation.

In the meantime, should you have any questions, please reach out via email to icebookings@greatersudbury.ca

We want to thank you all for your adaptability, your patience, and your incredible understanding over these past months while we all navigated this unprecedented time together – all for the safety of our kids and community and the love of ice sports.

We look forward to assisting you with future bookings once we are open again and will be in touch soon regarding Spring/Summer Ice Allocation.

Please forward this email to those in your user groups that I may have missed.

Wishing you all the very best, stay safe!

All the best,

Jody Cameron, MBA
Manager of Arenas
Arena Section / Leisure Services

*Given the present active COVID-19 case count and the move to a red zone we have made the difficult decision to cancel all SMHA hockey activities effective immediately. *

*We have consulted with our partners, parents, coaches and players and feel that this is the best decision at this point in time. *

Please stay safe and continue to follow all PHSD guidelines to protect you and your loved ones.

In response to the evolving situation of the COVID-19 VOCs (Variant of Concern), the Government of Ontario has adopted a more rigorous and cautious approach to implementing public health measures.

This includes the new Active Screening Requirement mentioned in previous communication as well as updated isolation requirements for household members. As such, we have updated the Arena User Guidelines, under the section Safety Protocol, to reflect the following:

If a School or Workplace has sent one of your participants/players home or identified that the participant/player must remain in isolation due to close contact of a confirmed or suspected COVID Case or a school or workplace closure, the participant/player as well as their entire household (siblings, parents, etc) CANNOT attend an extra-curricular activity in the arenas until the 14 day isolation period has ended and/or they receive a NEGATIVE COVID test result and are symptom free.

As an example of the above guideline – participants, players, siblings, parents, or other people living in the same household as students or teachers who attend Lasalle or Cyril Varney are not to attend arenas up to and including March 4th 2021.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need any clarification and that you for continuing to adhere to these important guidelines so that everyone can continue being on the ice.
